How to choose a travel eSIM: coverage, data and validity

Check device support, carrier restrictions, coverage, data allowance and validity before buying a travel eSIM, and distinguish data-only plans from plans with a phone number.

Check that your phone supports the plan

eSIM support does not guarantee compatibility with every plan. Check your exact model, sales region, operating system and carrier restrictions, then read the plan requirements. On iPhone, check Carrier Lock under Settings → General → About. Ask your original carrier about unlocking. See Apple’s carrier unlock guide.

Choose by coverage, not the exit IP location

List every country or region on your itinerary and check each against the plan’s coverage list. An exit IP location describes internet routing, not where a mobile network connection is available.

Compare data and validity together

Consider the data allowance, number of days and activation conditions alongside the price. Messaging, navigation, video and laptop tethering have different needs. Check hotspot support if you need it. Renewal is available only where the original order provides renewal options.

Data plans, registration plans and phone numbers

A data plan does not automatically include a phone number, calls or SMS. Our registration plans also come in versions with and without a number; versions without a number provide internet access only. Confirm SMS and third-party service requirements before buying. Registration is not guaranteed on every platform.

Before paying

Browse current eSIM plans and prices, then sign in to confirm your purchase. Next, read the installation and connection troubleshooting guide. Plans with the same eSIM label can have different conditions.
